I am wondering about the handling of situations like a person that has a high-cost backup WAN connection, like cellular or satellite, or a person who has another WAn connection that they are not allowed to resell but want to remain able to use seamlessly in a failover/redundancy scenario, probably for someone working from home.

I was also thinking of aggregation / bonding.

Althea can’t aggregate but failover / automated switching between connections works quite well.
What this means is that for example your gateway will never exceed the speed of the upstream it has selected and can only select/use one upstream at a time. But if you configure the backup connection with a higher cost it will switch between the primary and backup connection seamlessly without dropping connections or being otherwise noticeable to users.
